Look Who Is Logging Your IP Address – Forums You Visit

June 12, 2010

One of the reasons you want to hide your ip address is because more and more websites are tracking where you are.

Are they doing it for your benefit? Heck no.

They want to be able to take action against you should they see fit. Will it always be legitimate? You decide.

I went to sign up for a new forum today and look what I saw in the forum registration agreement:

Please note that with each post, your IP address is recorded, in the event that you need to be banned from this forum or your ISP contacted. This will only happen in the event of a major violation of this agreement. (emphasis mine)

Everyone wants your ISP to be the gatekeeper of the internet for you. Maybe you can change ISP’s but maybe your area doesn’t have a lot of decent choices.

Behave yourself online, but what if it was just that something you said was not currently politically correct?

There are many legitimate reasons to want to hide your IP address. The problem is that you may not know it until it’s too late.

Hide your IP address EVERY time you go online just to be sure.
