Jury Orders Music Sharer to Pay $675k for NOT Using GoTrusted

August 1, 2009

A federal jury in Boston ordered a Boston University grad student to pay $675,000 in fines to 4 record labels for illegally sharing songs and NOT using GoTrusted Secure VPN Tunnel service.

Ok, I’m reaching a bit here, and I am NOT condoning illegal activity of any kind.

The point is, though, had Joel Tenebaum been using a secure VPN tunnel service, for about $6 per month, he would not be facing this fine or the associated attorney’s fees.

Why not? They would have not even known who he was, that’s why.

The music industry or anyone else trying to sue you like this does so based on your IP address. And even if the address is not static (non-changing), your internet service provider (ISP) knows who had what address when.

Your ISP can log what IP address you had when and an awful lot of other information about what you do in the internet. Does that mean that they do? No, not for now anyway.

But some ISP’s are looking into targeting advertising to you based on what your interests are. Interests that they find out about by monitoring your internet activity.

No thanks. I choose to hide my IP address with GoTrusted secure VPN tunnel service.

Am I doing anything wrong? Not that I know of.

But then again Amazon.com just found out that they were selling pirated copies of George Orwell’s classic “1984″ book to their Kindle subscribers. And Amazon has more resources available (and attorneys) to perform due diligence on their activities than you or I do.

Don’t take any chances. You can try GoTrusted’s secure VPN tunnel service for free (credit card required but it’s no biggey – they won’t charge you if you cancel).
